Frozen Tundra Marble Kitchen

Aberfeldy, United Kingdom

Our Esteemed Marble Story

Yet another sensational story of our installation: 'Frozen Tundra Marble Kitchen'. Ever wondered why it is called the Frozen Tundra? It's named to make you feel like you're looking at a glacier trapped in stone. Fancy, right? A lot of "Frozen Tundra" slabs in the UK market are actually quartzite or marble-look quartz/engineered stone, depending on the supplier, because real marble is softer. The name often sticks even when the material type varies. When the client called, they described wanting an icy surface material, and that instantly reminded us of Frozen Tundra Marble. As a perfect match, the cabinet colour was white and the handles were black, which complemented the grains beautifully.

The Challenge

Challenging Frozen Tundra Installation Job

The Frozen Tundra installation pushed us right to the cliff, especially around the window where an interrupting upstand made things seriously tight. One wrong step and the stone was one step away from cracking. But that's where pros like us take over. We won't let such small setbacks take us down.

The Problem
The biggest challenge was the window interrupting the upstands. The upstand didn't follow a clean, continuous run; it had to start, stop, and restart midway due to the window opening. Half of it ran straight through the wall, then suddenly had to break for the window reveal before continuing again on the other side. This created serious alignment pressure, as even a few millimetres off would have ruined the symmetry and visible joints.
Solution
Precision cutting, dry fitting, and constant on-site adjustments were required. One miscalculation here would have thrown the entire visual flow completely off balance.
The Problem
Another tricky section involved two different structural finishes on either side. One side featured a standard continuous upstand, while the opposite side had an additional attached overhang shelf sitting directly on top of the upstand. This created a complex layering issue with uneven load distribution and height variation. Getting both sides to visually align while maintaining structural stability was a real test.
Solution
The challenge was ensuring the shelf didn't compromise the upstand integrity or create visible misalignment at the joints. Careful templating and reinforcement work were essential to keep everything level, tight, and visually seamless throughout the installation.
The Problem
The installation of the 30mm thick worktop and island introduced multiple height and level challenges. Cabinet variations, floor unevenness, and tight kitchen tolerances meant the final surface levels were not naturally consistent. Even a slight deviation would have resulted in visible lipping or poor joint alignment between worktop sections and the island surface.
Solution
We had to carefully laser-check levels, adjust packers, and fine-tune cabinet heights before final placement. The weight of the piece was further augmented by the thickness of the slab and the consequent reduction in tolerance for error. Each movement had to be measured in millimetres — if not, risk further problems.
The Problem
The final challenge was the jumbo slab island, a heavy, oversized piece that initially showed a slight wobble during early placement. Given its sheer weight and scale, any instability was a serious concern. The issue came down to base support alignment and uneven load distribution across the cabinet structure.
Solution
Before final fixing, the slab had to be carefully re-seated, re-levelled, and secured with reinforced support points. It was a tense moment on site, as handling such a large-format stone requires absolute control. Once properly settled, it locked into place solidly, transforming from unstable to rock-solid in a controlled, precise finish.

The Material

Frozen Tundra Marble

Frozen Tundra Marble Kitchen, worktop, island, and upstand with an attached shelf: we know Frozen Tundra can be the only elite stone for all these installations, and we were glad the client leaned into that choice as well. What makes it even more special is how partial and dynamic its presence feels across spaces like kitchen worktops, bathroom vanities, sink surrounds, and hob areas. The grey wavy patterns don't sit still visually; in some sections they softly whisper through the surface, while in others they take over and shift the entire slab into a deeper grey tone. Since it's a natural stone, this variation is not controlled but beautifully inconsistent, making every installation feel uniquely alive and intentionally unpredictable.

FAQs

Frozen Tundra Marble & Related Stone Queries

The most common application of this material is kitchen benchtops, islands, bathroom vanities, splashbacks, and feature walls. We find that it is particularly popular for making statement pieces out of due to the natural grey "wave" patterns that come through on each slab — no two are ever the same.
Yes, this material is great for flooring in luxury properties, hallways, and living areas. It brings a certain elegance to a space but will need to be sealed and maintained correctly on a regular basis, as marble is a natural, porous material that is prone to staining.
Tumbled marble is mainly used for rustic flooring, bathrooms, patios, and as feature wall cladding. It has a nice blend of grey veins throughout the lighter background, and the "tumbled" texture makes it slightly softer to the touch for a more traditional look.
Frozen Terra worktops offer a bit more flexibility in terms of pattern choice — they are also a bit more modern looking and easier to maintain than their Tundra counterpart. On the other hand, Tundra is more natural-looking and offers a striking dramatic appeal that is great for statement-making pieces. It has more veins, which means it cannot be relied upon as much for simpler applications.
Of course! We offer full supply, templating, fabrication, and installation services for all types of marble in Aberdeen, including the local area of Aberfeldy. We have nationwide coverage thanks to our warehouse distribution network.
Vinegar is highly acidic, which means that it not only strips the protective layer off marble but also permanently damages the crystalline structure of the surface, leaving unsightly etched marks. It is best to avoid using it on any calcified surface altogether.
You should never attempt to clean marble with anything that contains lemon juice, vinegar, bleach, or other harsh chemicals. Using powder cleaners or other abrasive cleaning agents will also scratch and permanently damage the surface of marble. Always use specialised cleaners designed for use on natural stone surfaces, preferably those that are pH-neutral.
