River White Granite Outdoor Kitchen

Berkshire, United Kingdom

Our Installation Story

The more unique the project is, the more challenges we see. This outdoor kitchen project — the River White Granite outdoor kitchen, which we did in

Berkshire, United Kingdom

— was one of the interesting projects we took last year. We had installed multiple River White granites for indoor kitchens and bathrooms, but compared to indoor projects, this one was a little different. The reason we went with this slab is because the client wanted something that would brighten the entire outdoor area. So we suggested this slab, which also complements the charcoal cabinetry and stainless steel appliances. One of the most noticeable features was the long L-shaped worktop wrapping neatly around the built-in barbecue.

The Challenge

Problems and Set of Solutions Faced During This Project

Of course each and every memorable project has its own set of challenges. From the images we can see that the completed outdoor kitchen has delivered a clean, contemporary appearance which looks highly practical for entertaining. The light tones within River White Granite help prevent the space from feeling enclosed, even when paired with the darker cabinetry and stainless steel appliances. But see how we smoothly completed this unique job.

The Problem
Unlike a standard kitchen worktop, the stone needed to fit precisely around the built-in barbecue unit while maintaining even clearances for ventilation and future servicing. Any inaccuracies could have affected both appearance and functionality.
How We Solved It
Before fabrication, detailed measurements of the barbecue housing were taken alongside the cabinetry dimensions. The granite was manufactured with carefully positioned cut-outs and expansion allowances where required. We dry-fitted the barbecue during installation before the final positioning of the worktops to make sure the appliance integrated neatly.
The Problem
Outdoor worktops are constantly exposed to rainwater. If we are not experienced enough, we will install an extremely flat, levelled surface just like indoors — but in the case of outdoors, it will just accumulate standing water, which means cleaning multiple times and the chance of appearance being affected in the long term.
How We Solved It
Our experts introduced subtle gradients during installation, wherever appropriate, to encourage natural water runoff without affecting the appearance of the worktops. Particular attention was given around internal corners and worktop junctions where water could otherwise collect. Edge detailing also helped minimise water retention, making the outdoor kitchen easier to maintain after periods of wet weather.
The Problem
Unlike indoor kitchens where most edges sit against walls or cabinetry, this outdoor design left several polished granite edges fully exposed. These edges are more vulnerable to accidental knocks from garden furniture, cookware and frequent entertaining.
How We Solved It
A robust polished edge profile was selected to provide both visual appeal and greater resistance to minor impacts. During fabrication, every exposed edge received additional finishing to ensure consistency across the entire installation. Careful handling throughout transport and fitting prevented damage before the project was completed, leaving crisp, durable edges ready for everyday outdoor use.
The Problem
The L-shaped design required long corner joints that remained highly visible from multiple viewpoints. Even slight inconsistencies would become noticeable, particularly under evening lighting.
How We Solved It
Digital templating captured the exact cabinet layout before fabrication began. The corner sections were dry-assembled within the workshop to verify joint accuracy prior to delivery. On installation day, final adjustments were made to achieve consistent joint widths and smooth surface transitions.
Final Outcome — One particularly successful feature is the uninterrupted worktop run, which gives our client's outdoor kitchen a premium built-in appearance. Rather than feeling like separate outdoor units, the cabinetry, appliances and granite now work together as one cohesive entertaining area designed for regular use throughout the seasons.
