Cosmic Black Granite Kitchen Island

Hertfordshire, United Kingdom

Our Installation Story

Cosmic Black Granite

was a natural choice for our clients from

Hertfordshire

who wanted to add depth while keeping their design cohesive. The large island became the main feature of the installation, with the dark granite extending across the worktop and down the exposed side to create a substantial, furniture-like finish. We also fabricated the stone around the inset sink, making sure the opening was cleanly integrated into the work surface.

The Design Direction

A Kitchen Island That Was Meant To Stand Out

There was already something quite distinctive about this kitchen. The green cabinetry had character, so the island didn't need to shout for attention — it simply needed to hold its own. Cosmic Black Granite gave us that opportunity.

Design Objective
Create a substantial central feature.
What We Did
Used a generous section of Cosmic Black Granite to give the island a strong visual presence and plenty of usable workspace.
Design Objective
Give the island a more architectural finish.
What We Did
Continued the granite vertically down the exposed end, visually connecting the worktop and side panel.
Design Objective
Keep the practical elements integrated into the design.
What We Did
Precision-fabricated the sink opening directly into the granite worktop for a neat, built-in appearance.
Design Objective
Avoid a completely uniform dark surface.
What We Did
Positioned the slab so its lighter mineral patterns remain visible across the main island surface and exposed end.
Final Outcome — The finished Cosmic Black Granite kitchen island has become the natural centre of the kitchen. The combination of deep green cabinetry and Cosmic Black Granite feels bold without becoming excessive, while the continuous stone side gives the island considerably more presence. The lighter movement in the granite becomes particularly noticeable across the large surface, adding character without taking away from its dark, sophisticated appearance.

Material Used for Worktops

Cosmic Black Granite

Cosmic Black Granite is a dramatic natural stone with a predominantly dark charcoal-to-black background and contrasting mineral movement. Depending on the slab, the pattern can range from subtle grey markings to more pronounced flowing lighter veins. It works particularly well when a kitchen needs a darker statement surface without relying on a completely uniform black material.

FAQs

Questions About Granite Island Kitchen Worktops

Yes. Granite is particularly well suited to large work surfaces because of its durability, and a large island also gives the natural movement within the slab enough space to be properly appreciated.
Yes. We can fabricate matching granite end panels or waterfall-style sides where the layout and slab dimensions allow it. This creates a much more substantial, furniture-like appearance.
Yes. Sink cut-outs can be precision fabricated into granite, including undermount and other compatible sink configurations.
That is not necessary. What colour are your surrounding cabinets, type of lighting, flooring, amount of natural light which your kitchen gets, all will together make a difference.
No. This slab is a product of nature so design and pattern will differ from slab to slab.
