Palladio Fenice Honed Terrazzo Kitchen

Gloucestershire, United Kingdom

Our Installation Story

This kitchen that we completed in

Gloucestershire

last year had a traditional touch to it. The walls were classic and the cabinets were rustic. The clients wanted to pair their dark charcoal Shaker-style cabinetry with a fun kind of element and stand out.

Palladio Fenice Honed Terrazzo

offered exactly that balance. Its mix of soft neutral tones with contrasting blue and green aggregate gives the worktop a playful character, while the honed finish keeps the overall appearance understated rather than overly glossy.

The Design Direction

Colour, Texture & A Practical Working Surface

The Shaker-style kitchen cabinets look rustic and vintage, so the clients wanted their worktop to add interest. However, they did not want a busy looking cooking room. We used Palladio Fenice for the main cooking area and sink zone.

Design Objective
Introduce colour and personality into the darker kitchen scheme.
Our Execution
Palladio Fenice was fabricated across the main worktop run, allowing its blue, green and neutral aggregate to stand out against the cabinetry.
Design Objective
Match the vintage vibe of their kitchen.
Our Execution
A honed finish worktop was installed which, by not being glossy, keeps things subtle and toned down — perfectly matching the rustic vibe and traditional cabinets.
Design Objective
Create a practical surface around one of the kitchen's busiest zones.
Our Execution
The worktop was accurately templated around the sink area, providing a generous preparation surface while maintaining clean lines around the opening.
Design Objective
Keep the different parts of the kitchen visually connected.
Our Execution
The terrazzo was carried across the adjoining counter sections so the distinctive aggregate pattern continues naturally through the working areas.
Final Outcome — The completed kitchen has a much more individual character thanks to the terrazzo worktop. In this modern world of minimalism, we got a chance to finally play with colours and add life to the heart of a home. The best part of this project was its colourful nature, balanced well by the honed finish that prevents the surface from competing with the existing brick-style wall.

Make The Worktop The Colour Story

Not every kitchen needs a plain white or neutral worktop. Terrazzo can introduce several colours at once, making it easier to connect different elements of an existing kitchen without having to match everything exactly. Palladio Fenice works particularly well where cabinetry is darker or more traditional. The lighter base keeps the room feeling open, while the coloured aggregate adds small points of contrast across the surface.
