Vendome Terrazzo Kitchen

Catford, United Kingdom

Installation Story

The kitchen already had a strong colour scheme, so the worktop needed to bring the different elements together rather than compete with them. Vendome Terrazzo was a natural fit for that combination. Its pale base brightens the working areas, while the terracotta, blue-grey, black and neutral chips pick up some of the colours already present around the room. The island became the main feature.

The Design Direction

A Terrazzo Kitchen With Plenty of Character

This Catford kitchen uses Vendome Terrazzo across several areas rather than treating the stone as just a countertop material. The worktops, splashback and island all carry the same terrazzo surface, creating a clear connection between each part of the kitchen. Against the deep green cabinetry, pale blue-grey wall units and white walls, the warm and cool aggregate colours have plenty of room to stand out.

Final Outcome —

The finished space has a fairly simple base palette, but the surfaces stop it from feeling flat. The pale Vendome Terrazzo catches the light across the worktops, while the small coloured aggregates become more noticeable when viewed up close.

Vendome Terrazzo

Vendome Terrazzo has a light, understated base, but it is far from plain. The surface contains a mixture of coloured stone fragments, with noticeable terracotta, muted blue-grey, black and neutral pieces distributed throughout the slab. That gives it a more relaxed appearance than a heavily veined stone while still providing plenty to look at. The exact appearance can vary from slab to slab, particularly because the aggregate distribution is part of the character of terrazzo.

Light Terrazzo, Dark Cabinetry, One Connected Kitchen

Vendome Terrazzo works particularly well when the cabinetry is doing something bold. Here, the deep green base units provide the contrast while the terrazzo keeps the overall room bright. The waterfall island then brings the two together, allowing the stone to become part of the kitchen's visual structure rather than simply sitting on top of the cabinets.

Pricing Guide

Vendome Terrazzo Kitchen Worktop Price, Catford

There isn't one fixed price for a terrazzo kitchen because the final cost depends on the amount of material required, fabrication, cut-outs, edge details, splashbacks and installation. A larger island with waterfall sides, for example, requires considerably more fabrication than a straightforward run of worktop.

FAQs

Questions About Terrazzo Kitchen Worktops

Yes. Terrazzo can be fabricated for kitchen islands, including larger island surfaces and waterfall edge designs such as the one featured in this Catford installation.
Yes, Terrazzo slabs are safe for use behind sinks. They are not affected by moisture. The advantage of using the same Terrazzo for the worktops and splashback is your space looks uniform.
Yes. A waterfall edge requires additional fabrication because the horizontal surface continues down the side of the island. The slab layout and joins need to be planned carefully before fabrication.
It can. A lighter terrazzo such as Vendome provides a useful contrast against darker cabinetry, while the coloured aggregate can help introduce warmer or cooler tones without requiring another major surface finish.
No. Aggregate distribution can vary between slabs. The general colour palette remains recognisable, but the exact arrangement of the stone pieces will not be identical from one slab to another.
Yes. Sink cut-outs can be fabricated into the worktop according to the selected sink and kitchen layout.
