Middlesex, United Kingdom

Installation Story

Not every homeowner wants polished white marble or dramatic natural veining. For this

Middlesex

renovation, the client was after something quieter, an understated surface that would blend seamlessly into their contemporary interior.

Tartufo Honed Quartz

delivered exactly that. Its soft charcoal-grey tones and textured appearance introduced depth without becoming the centre of attention, allowing the overall kitchen design to feel calm, balanced and effortlessly modern.

The Design Approach

Simplicity Was The Statement

The brief wasn't about adding visual drama. Unlike popular requests, this Middlesex client asked for their kitchen to feel neat and uncluttered as soon as somebody entered the room. They were after a space that was easy to live with. You can see the final look of the honed-finish quartz slab — it looks stunning not just on worktops but also islands, and full-height splashbacks did a wonderful job. There's more for you to see, so keep scrolling.

Design Objective
The kitchen already had a lot of straight lines, so we were aiming to tone down that sharpness and give the kitchen a softer invitation with something already available.
Our Method
The team produced a smooth continuous edge on the breakfast bar and gave it rounded corners. The rounded peninsula look feels absolutely minimal and also provides an informal seating area.
Design Objective
The customers expressed that they would like the back of the worktop to also look graceful. Additionally, they wanted something to make their daily cleaning process easier.
Our Method
We used jumbo slabs of the same honed grey quartz to install a full-length splashback behind the worktops. It automatically reduced maintenance time.
Design Objective
The client wanted practical working zones without disturbing the clean look of the surface.
Our Method
Sink and hob cut-outs were accurately positioned to maintain generous, uninterrupted preparation space while preserving the worktop's balanced proportions.
Final Outcome — The completed kitchen proves that subtle materials can have just as much impact as highly patterned stone. With this grey matte finish, quartz introduces texture rather than colour, allowing natural daylight, timber flooring and white cabinetry to become part of the overall composition. The finished space feels contemporary, practical and designed to remain stylish for many years.

The Material

Tartufo Quartz swatch close-up

Tartufo Quartz

Tartufo Composite Quartz has a cloudy-grey look — neither too dark nor too light, sitting right in the middle with soft whites all over the surface. This slab can be said to have a concrete-inspired appearance. We get this in a non-glossy finish. Being an engineered quartz surface, it combines contemporary aesthetics with excellent resistance to stains, scratches and everyday kitchen use.

FAQs

Questions About Honed Quartz Kitchen Worktops

No, all quartz worktops, polished as well as honed, are made to be non-porous, so everyday spills do not stain the surface.
Not at all. Just use the same method of daily cleaning — warm water and a soft microfibre cloth. If the stains are tough, use a pH-neutral cleaner.
No, quartz worktops do not need to be resealed after they are installed.
Absolutely. Its subtle, concrete-inspired appearance makes it particularly popular in contemporary, Scandinavian and industrial-style interiors.
Far less than many glossy dark surfaces. The honed texture naturally disguises light smudges and reflections, helping the worktops maintain a clean appearance between wipes.
