kitchen called for more than a standard island worktop. The island itself is substantial, measuring approximately 3.3 metres long and 2 metres deep, giving the kitchen a generous central working and social space. With that much surface area available, the stone needed to have enough natural movement to remain interesting across the entire piece. The clients selectedAlexandrita Quartzite
, with its pale green-grey background, flowing white movement and distinctive mineral patterning. We treated the large island as one visual element rather than a collection of separate pieces, carefully planning the fabrication so the character of the quartzite could be appreciated across the broad surface. The stone was also carried down the sides to create the waterfall-style ends, giving the island a much more substantial architectural appearance. The result is a large statement island where the scale of the stone and the scale of the furniture work together rather than competing.The Vision
A Large Island Deserves A Stone With Movement
With an island of this size, a plain worktop could easily leave the centre of the kitchen feeling visually flat. Alexandrita Quartzite solves that simply through its natural pattern. The pale green and grey tones provide enough variation to draw the eye across the full length, while the darker cabinetry underneath gives the stone a clear frame.
