Limitations of Undermount Sink
Standard laminate worktops cannot be used if you are planning an under-mounted sink. This is because, in many cases, chipboard or other porous materials are used to make the underneath of Laminate worktops, and only the exposed top portion is laminated. Should Undermount Kitchen Sink be Caulked?
An undermount sink, in contrast to the more popular over-mount sink, hangs from below and thus needs to be supported from below. This configuration exposes the countertop's edge, the bottom of which combines with the top edge of the sink. There is usually a tiny gap between the under mounted sink and the worktop, and it is crucial to caulk that gap to prevent mould growth and potential issues with the adhesives anchoring the sink in place.
Due to the slightly more odd angle, caulking these sinks can be a little bit trickier. The manner an under mounted sink is installed, like a farmhouse sink, usually necessitates caulking. Naturally, there will be greater room between the sink and the counter's edge. Epoxy and clips will be used to secure the sink in place. You might not notice the need for caulk to seal all those tiny crevices since you won't be able to see the hardware keeping the sink in place. The fact that these sinks are typically large, hefty, and built from a mould prevents the edges from being as thin as those of a stainless drop-in sink, making caulking around the edges all the more crucial.
