already had a warm foundation. Once the clients let us know that their cabinets were made of natural oak, we knew what to do. We asked them for more images of their space to get a thorough idea — they had a stainless-steel oven and a light wood-effect floor. The main challenge was to introduce a dark-coloured worktop without making the room feel unnecessarily heavy. The homeowners chose

to create a stronger contrast while keeping the overall kitchen visually cohesive. The polished surface brings subtle sparkle and reflection into the room, while the dark colour ties together the appliances and darker kitchen details. Rather than stopping at the main worktop runs, the stone was also used across the island sides and around the sink area, giving the installation a much more complete, furniture-like appearance.

Dark Worktops, Warm Cabinetry & A More Defined Island

Black Mirror Quartz gave us the opportunity to introduce a deep, reflective surface while keeping the detailing practical. Particular attention was given to the island, sink area and drainer, where the fabrication needed to work as well in everyday use as it looked from across the room.

Introduce a dramatic contrast against the natural oak cabinetry.

The polished quartz was installed across the main kitchen runs, creating a continuous dark surface that complements the warmth of the timber units.

The quartz was carried down the exposed island sides, creating a strong vertical finish and making the island feel more like a solid piece of furniture.

Four precision-cut grooves were fabricated directly into the quartz beside the sink, providing a dedicated area for water to drain naturally towards the basin.

The quartz was accurately cut around the sink, with the surrounding surface providing a generous area for placing and preparing items.

Matching dark quartz was used behind the main working areas, creating a stronger connection between the worktop and wall while protecting the surface behind the cooker and preparation zones.
Final Look — The completed kitchen has a strong contrast between the warm oak cabinetry and the deep Black Mirror Quartz. The polished surface catches reflections and tiny flecks of light as the kitchen is viewed from different angles, preventing the dark worktop from appearing flat. The island has an especially substantial presence because the quartz continues down its exposed sides, while the integrated drainer grooves provide a practical detail that's almost invisible until the sink area is used.
